CAVALIERS CLAIM WESTSIDE CHAMPIONSHIP WITH 48-13 WIN OVER MUSTANGS

Croxford took control early and never let go, beating the George McDougall Mustangs 48-13 in front of a packed house at Ed Eggerer Field on Saturday afternoon. The Cavs put up 16 points in each of the first two quarters and led 32-7 at the half, a margin that never seriously came into question.

The story was the ground game. Croxford ran for 221 yards on the day while holding George McDougall to just 2 rushing yards — a defensive performance that shaped everything else about the afternoon. Corbin Rohl led the way with 101 yards on eight carries and a 37-yard touchdown run, and added a 38-yard receiving touchdown, a 29-yard field goal and five convert kicks for good measure. Grade 10 quarterback Davin Bankebabone added 60 yards and a score on seven carries, while Carson Stewart broke off a 35-yard touchdown run.

The defense was relentless. Croxford forced three turnovers, recorded two safeties — one from Caleb Bourassa, one from Noah Rivard — and turned a loose ball into points when Ryland Rehm returned a fumble for a touchdown. Rivard finished with three tackles, two tackles for loss and a blocked kick. McFarlane and Smith Layton each posted four tackles, Kingsen Kelly picked off a pass, and Liam Haynes recovered a fumble. George McDougall managed just four first downs all game and was 0-for-2 on third down.

Special teams flipped field position all afternoon, with Bankebabone returning a punt 37 yards and Stewart adding a 39-yard kickoff return.

Full credit to George McDougall, who found the end zone twice on big plays and never stopped competing. This rivalry brings the best out of both programs, and it did again on Saturday.

For the Cavaliers, it's a first Westside title in years — and a young roster that's only getting started.
