Cavs Pull Away From No. 5 Notre Dame, 66-24

The W.H. Croxford Cavaliers went on the road Friday night and handed fifth-ranked 5A School Notre Dame a 66-24 loss, scoring 35 unanswered points after halftime.

Croxford jumped out to a 14-0 lead in the first quarter, but Notre Dame answered through the air and cut the gap to 31-24 at the half. From there, the Cavs defence took over, holding Notre Dame scoreless over the final two quarters while the offence kept rolling.

Grade 10 Davanni Brown led the way with four touchdowns, rushing 13 times for 89 yards and three scores and adding a 30-yard touchdown catch from Grade 12 captain Marshall Diggens. Diggens finished 6 for 10 for 142 yards.

Carson Stewart accounted for 24 points on his own: an 89-yard kickoff return touchdown, a 42-yard touchdown catch, a 30-yard field goal and nine converts.

Grade 10 Davin Bankebabone contributed in every phase of the offence, completing 3 of 4 passes for 65 yards and a touchdown, rushing for 57 yards and a score, and catching two passes for 57 yards.

Grade 10 Christian McElligott punched in a 5-yard touchdown and led the defence with seven tackles. Grade 12 Caleb Bourassa capped the night by returning a blocked kick for a touchdown, and Grade 10 Liam Haynes added a sack.

As a team, Croxford piled up 424 yards of offence, including 217 on the ground, while holding Notre Dame to just 30 rushing yards. The Cavs were also the more disciplined side, with 5 penalties for 16 yards compared to Notre Dame's 16 for 68.

A strong team effort against a quality opponent. The Cavs will look to carry that momentum into next week.
