CAVS BLANK BOW VALLEY 45-0 IN COCHRANE

Cold temperatures and steady rain couldn't slow down the Croxford Cavaliers on Saturday afternoon, as the Cavs scored on special teams, offence and defence in a 45-0 road win over Bow Valley at Spray Lakes Field in Cochrane.

Croxford set the tone immediately. Carson Stewart returned a kickoff 85 yards for a touchdown, and the Cavs never looked back, scoring 21 points in the first quarter. Marshall Diggens found Davin Bankebabone for a 13-yard touchdown, and Davanni Brown nearly found the end zone on a 50-yard run before the ball came loose at the goal line, where Stewart was right there to recover it for the score.

Brown made sure he got his in the second quarter, breaking off a 65-yard touchdown run, and the defence added two safeties, including one from Anderson Diggens, to send the Cavs into halftime up 31-0. Brown added a 24-yard touchdown run in the third, finishing with two scores and well over 100 yards on the ground. Diggens and Bankebabone connected again from 13 yards out in the fourth to close the scoring.

Diggens was efficient in tough conditions, going 4-of-5 for 69 yards and two touchdowns. Bankebabone led all receivers with four catches for 69 yards and two scores. Mateo McCormick connected on five of six convert attempts in the wet.

The defence was the story of the afternoon. Croxford held Bow Valley to 35 total yards and minus 41 yards rushing, allowing just four first downs and stopping them on both third-down attempts. The Cavs intercepted three passes, with picks from B. Qureshi, N. Koester and Caleb Bourassa. Noah Rivard, L. Emmett and B. Vankessel each recorded a sack and a tackle for loss, while Christian McElligott led the team with five tackles and an assist.

Stewart also gave the Cavs great field position all day, averaging 30 yards on two punt returns, including a 60-yard return.

Thank you to every family and fan who made the trip to Cochrane and stood out in the rain to support the team. The Cavaliers get back to work this week and turn their focus to the next game.

FINAL: Croxford 45, Bow Valley 0
