CAVS CLOSE REGULAR SEASON WITH 55-6 WIN AT SPRINGBANK

The W.H. Croxford Cavaliers wrapped up the regular season Friday night with a 55-6 win over the Springbank Phoenix, taking a 38-6 lead into halftime and controlling the game from the opening quarter.

The defense set the tone early with a first-quarter safety. Grade 10 Davin Bankebabone followed with a 66-yard touchdown run, and Marshall Diggens connected with Carson Stewart for a 14-yard score to make it 17-0 after one.

Bankebabone delivered one of the standout individual performances of the season, accounting for 316 total yards and five touchdowns. On the ground, he carried seven times for 205 yards and four scores, averaging over 29 yards per carry with touchdown runs of 66, 51, 12 and 45 yards. Through the air, he went 6 for 10 for 111 yards, including a 29-yard touchdown pass to McKayo McFarlane. Davanni Brown added 112 yards on six carries, highlighted by a 54-yard touchdown run. Croxford finished with 482 total yards, 357 of them on the ground.

On defense, the Cavs held Springbank to 20 rushing yards on 18 carries. Christian McElligott led the group with four combined tackles, and #34 Vankessel added five combined tackles and a tackle for loss. Mateo McCormick was perfect in the kicking game with seven converts, a 26-yard field goal and a single for 10 points.

The performance fit the identity this team has built all season. Through six games, the Cavs averaged nearly 196 rushing yards per game while allowing just 23.5, and forced 13 turnovers against only six of their own.

The playoffs start this Friday with a rematch against Bert Church in Airdrie. The Cavs won the first meeting 48-13 just two weeks ago, but playoff football is a fresh start, and this group will be ready. Come out and support the team.
