Coach's Message

Eric Chamberland
Head Coach
In social studies we spend a lot of time on founding moments. The first meeting, the first charter, the first group of people who decide that something ought to exist and then do the work of making it real. What gets remembered is rarely the outcome of any single day. It's the fact that somebody started. Horseshoe Crossing is in the middle of one of those moments. Their program is in its first year, which means the young men in that Broncos jersey are doing something none of their classmates have done before. I have a great deal of respect for that. Every established program in this province, ours included, was once exactly where they are. The way we honour a new program is not by taking it easy. It's by playing clean, disciplined, physical football and giving them a real measure of what this league asks. That's how we were taught, and that's how we teach it. Cavaliers, play with class. Play with effort. Play the way you'd want to be remembered by the people across the field. Go Cavs. Coach C
Game Preview
The Cavaliers host the Horseshoe Crossing Broncos, a program playing its very first season in the division. Everyone in that visiting jersey is writing the opening chapter of their school's football history, and that deserves a full house and a loud, respectful crowd on both sidelines. Huge Outing Croxford is riding a 66-24 win over Notre Dame on September 11. The Cavs scored in every quarter and closed the game on a 35-0 run across the second half. Numbers That Mattered - 424 total yards for the Cavs on just 47 plays, against 295 yards on 68 plays for Notre Dame. Croxford did more with far fewer snaps. - 217 rushing yards, and the Cavs held Notre Dame to 30 on the ground. - 20 first downs to 13. Players to Watch - D. Brown, #21. Three rushing touchdowns plus a 30-yard receiving score against Notre Dame, 89 yards on 13 carries. - Carson Stewart, #6. Did everything. An 89-yard kickoff return touchdown, a 42-yard receiving touchdown, a 30-yard field goal, and nine converted PATs. - Marshall Diggens, #3. Steady at quarterback, 6 of 10 for 142 yards and a touchdown. - Davin Bankebabone, #1. Threw for a score and ran for another, a genuine dual threat. - Christian McElligott, #20. Led the defence with five tackles and a tackle for loss, and added a rushing touchdown. - Caleb Bourassa, #0. Blocked a kick and returned it for a touchdown. What to Watch For The Cavs' ground game has been the engine, and the offensive line's push in the first quarter usually sets the tone. On defence, watch the front seven: Haynes, Rehm, Sylvinski and Frampton have been getting into the backfield consistently. Go Cavs.
