Coach's Message

Eric Chamberland
Head Coach
“In 1972, Canada entered the Summit Series against the Soviet Union expecting to win easily. Then the Soviets won Game 1 by a score of 7-3, and suddenly every assumption was gone. The series came down to the final minute of the final game in Moscow, when Paul Henderson scored with 34 seconds left. Canada won not because of what anyone expected, but because they kept competing when it mattered most. That’s playoff football. What happened two weeks ago against Bert Church doesn’t matter now. They’re a proud program, they know us well, and they’ll bring everything they have. Records reset. Expectations mean nothing. The only thing that counts is the next sixty minutes. Welcome to the season that matters. Let’s go write some history of our own.” – Coach Chamberlin
Game Preview
Seven weeks ago, this group opened its first season in 5A, the province’s top tier, with a 27-21 loss in Cochrane. It was a close game against a strong opponent, and the team learned from it. They have not lost since. The Cavs enter the playoffs with a 6-1 record and six straight wins. Over seven games they have scored 358 points and allowed 83, including back-to-back shutouts against Horseshoe Crossing and Bow Valley. The offence has put up at least 45 points in each of the last six games, and the defence has allowed 13 points or fewer in five of them. Tonight’s opponent is familiar. Two weeks ago, in front of a full Homecoming crowd at Ed Eggerer, the Cavs beat Bert Church 49-13. That result will not decide tonight’s game. Beating a good team twice in one season is one of the hardest things in football. Bert Church has watched the film, made its adjustments, and has nothing to lose. In the playoffs, every team starts at 0-0, and the season ends with the next loss. The Cavaliers’ approach has stayed the same all year: prepare well, play hard, and hold to their standards no matter who lines up across from them. Our Grade 12s, led by captain and quarterback Marshall Diggens, have shown that every week, and the younger players have followed. What we need from you: come early, wear navy and orange, and be loud from the opening kickoff to the final whistle. Playoff football in Airdrie should feel like it. Thank you for your support all season. One game at a time. Go Cavs!
