Coach's Message

Eric Chamberland
Head Coach
"Eighty-two years ago this week, Canadian soldiers were fighting through the Battle of the Scheldt in Belgium and the Netherlands. It wasn't glamorous. It was cold, wet, flooded ground, fought one dike and one village at a time. But the work had to be finished, because the port of Antwerp couldn't open until it was, and the final push to end the war depended on it. The Canadians finished the job. Football is only a game, and nothing we do on a field compares to what those young Canadians did. But there's a lesson in it for us. Big moments are built on finishing the work in front of you. Friday against a good Springbank team is the last game of our regular season, and how we finish it opens the door to everything that comes next. Finish the job. Then we move forward together."
Game Preview
The W.H. Croxford Cavaliers hit the road Friday for their regular season finale against the Springbank Phoenix, looking to carry momentum into playoffs. The Cavs are coming off a dominant 49-13 win over Bert Church. Croxford piled up 390 total yards to Bert Church's 169, including 259 on the ground, and held a 35-0 lead before the Chargers found the end zone. Davanni B. led the rushing attack with 121 yards and a touchdown on 14 carries. Carson S. scored three ways, with a 22-yard rushing touchdown, a 26-yard receiving touchdown, and a 50-yard punt return for a score. Davin B. had a hand in three touchdowns of his own, catching a 49-yard strike from Marshall D., running one in from five yards out, and throwing a touchdown pass to Stewart. The defence was just as sharp, forcing three turnovers and holding Bert Church to 53 rushing yards. Caleb B. picked off a pass, Hudson F. led the team with five tackles, and the front seven got home for two sacks. Springbank enters the game on a rollercoaster stretch. The Phoenix blanked Horseshoe Crossing 36-0 last week after falling 56-7 to Cochrane the week before. Croxford has had Springbank's number in recent seasons, but a team coming off a shutout win will be looking to make a statement in its final regular season game. Weather could also play a role, with a storm possibly rolling in later in the evening. The early kickoff should help, but fans making the drive west should come prepared. One more regular season game. Let's finish strong and head into playoffs on a high note. Go Cavs!
